Gated 2D biomicroscope cine in the short axis view from a normal littermate of Family 78. Slow motion cine of one ECG (green tracing) gated cardiac cycle showed normal concentric thickness of the walls with brighter (echo dense) endocardium. Papillary muscles of the left ventricle can be seen at 1:00 and 4:00 o’clock. Exquisite wall motion showed no areas of dyskinesis. The echo dense speckles in the cavity are RBCs. Note the epicardial borders are well delineated from the surrounding tissue, facilitating the outer wall measurements. The faint vertical black lines are technical artifacts.

Gated 2D cine in the short axis view of a Family 78 mouse showed nonobstructive concentric left ventricular hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Note the exquisite 2D images showing the hypertrophied papillary muscles and concentrically thickened walls. The aortic valve was not thickened and moved well in systole. The LV is hypercontractile with reduced cavity at end-systole, consistent with the observed increase in shortening fraction and ejection fraction.
