This video clip shows a wild type E9.5 embryo which was recorded immediately after its release from the uterus. Note the developing heart had healthy peristaltic wave-like contractions in atria. The frequency of contraction was 25 ± 0.6 (mean ± SEM) among 6 embryos examined. It is not known whether the frequency of contraction was similar to that before embryos were separated from the uterus.

This video clip shows an E-Tmod -/- embryo at E9.5 which was recorded immediately after its release from the uterus. Note the massive pericardial effusion and the abnormal, developing heart that had barely noticeable tremors initiated from the region corresponding to atria. The frequency among 6 E-Tmod -/- embryos examined was 21 ± 2.9 under the same experimental conditions used for wild type embryos.
