Live differential interference contrast imaging of a freshly isolated pericyte-containing microvessel. The scale bar represents 10µm. Images were acquired every 6 seconds for 5.75 minutes. The circle appearing in the beginning of the movie outlines the region of pericyte contraction. Two erythrocytes (red) can be seen within the microvascular lumen. The microvessel was being constantly superfused with Solution A. The appearance of "oxo" in the movie correlates with the presence of 10µM oxotremorine-M in the superfusate. In the presence of oxotremorine-M, pericytes contracted, constricting the lumen and squeezing the two erythrocytes distally.
