Cover: Fluorescence micrograph of mouse tracheal vasculature stained for CD31 immunoreactivity (red) showing the location of extravasated 100-nm microspheres (yellow-green) at 2 min after intravenous injection of bradykinin. Microspheres were injected 1 min after the bradykinin, and tissues were fixed by vascular perfusion 1 min later. Extravasated microspheres are abundant in the wall of postcapillary venules but rare in capillaries. From Baffert F, Le T, Thurston G, and McDonald DM. “Angiopoietin-1 decreases plasma leakage by reducing number and size of endothelial gaps in venules.” Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 290: H107–H118, 2006.
